On June 4, 2007, 1,683 guitarists descended on the outfield of Community America Ballpark in Kansas City, Kansas, with an end goal to smash the world record for the most people playing the same song all the while, and they did it (however their record would be topped a couple of years after the fact).
The song was “Smoke on the Water,” and it was composed by English rock band Deep Purple. It was first discharged on their 1972 album Machine Head. This song is known for and recognizable by its focal subject, created by guitarist Ritchie Blackmore.
The record was beforehand set in 1994, when 1,323 individuals played a similar melody in Vancouver, British Columbia. The occasion was put on by the Kansas City radio station KYYS (99.7 FM) after one of its morning show hosts, Tanna Guthrie, concocted the thought.
Keeping in mind the end goal to break the record, every one of the 1,683 guitarists played out the song’s mark opening riff for five straight minutes.
Players came from everywhere throughout the world to take part, with ages running from review school to grandparents.
