Madal is a Nepalese percussion that forms the backbone of most Nepalese songs! It is a hollow cylinder with the ends closed tightly by animal skin, usually that of a goat. This instrument is mainly used for keeing the rhythm in the song. Madal originated from the Magar community. It is basically a Nepalese drum. Madal is usually played in horizontal position gripping it between the legs. However, in concerts we see two madals played in an inverted position.
You might have seen various age groups playing madal at different shows and concerts. But had you ever seen a 2 year old child playing madal and that too on beat. If not then get ready to be stunned by this amazing video. The little boy’s name is Aryan Baskota. He is overloaded with cuteness. He plays the madal perfectly on beat being calm and composed. He seems to be enjoying a lot as well. Patting exactly at the right time he performs two popular songs-Chatti ma mero and Saal ko Pata alongside the music of a flute. Enjoy the video…
