Nicki Minaj just released the new video for “Super Freaky Girl.” Directed by Joseph Kahn (who has also helmed videos for Taylor Swift, among others), it features Minaj getting flirty at home with “Vikings” actor and “The Hunger Games” alum Alexander Ludwig and walking past Barbie doll neighbors before burning her house down in pink flames.
“Super Freaky Girl” marked Minaj’s first solo release in three years. The track, which dropped on Aug. 12, uses a sample of Rick James’s “Super Freak” to pay homage to the 1981 hit.
“Super Freaky Girl” debuted at no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it the first hip-hop song by a female artist (without accompaniment) to do so since Ms. Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” in 1998.
Nicki Minaj received the 2022 MTV Video Vanguard Award at the 2022 VMAs, where she performed a medley of her biggest hits.
Earlier this month, she announced a new six-part documentary about her life and rise in Hip-Hop is on the way. She recently shared a trailer that showcases her in various growth stages as an unknown rapper struggling to make it, then as a successful superstar and one of the biggest names in pop music.
