When topic comes about the famous rock bands of Nepal, the name ‘Abhaya & The Steam Injuns’ can never be overlooked. The band was formed on January 2, 2003.
Initially the band members were involved in playing live gigs in hotels and lounger bars. It was essentially an acoustic blues band before it kicked off as a rock outfit. Abhaya Subba, the lead vocalist is also the founder member and manager of the band. Rajiv Rinchen Palzar is the lead guitarist of the band, Shailendra Singh on the keys, Tsewang NT Hyolmo on the bass and NabinT Magar is the drummer of the band.
Darjeeling has always been famous for the Darjeeling Himalayan Railways. It was the very tiny steam engines that chug around the hills of Darjeeling that motivated Abhaya to name the band ‘Steam Injuns’. The band since then has been promoting rock music adding a new twist in the taste of music of Nepal.
Their creations have always rocked among youngsters nationwide and thrilled the audience every time they perform in stages and concerts. Presently video is a cover song of ‘What’s Up’ by Abhaya & The Steam Injuns’. The song so beautifully exhibited by the band is originally created by ‘4 Non Blondes’. The band truly is a bless to Nepali rock music and the fact can not be shunned.
