Kathmandu- The 21st of June each year is World Music Day, commonly referred to as Fête de la Musique, a worldwide celebration of music. It is a day intended to spread awareness of music’s capacity to unite people from all different cultural, racial, and social origins.
In 1982, the French Minister of Culture Jack Lang, composer Maurice Fleuret, and a radio producer who also doubled as a music journalist came up with the idea for World Music Day.
Since then, the event has spread worldwide, being observed on the same day in over 700 cities in 120 nations, including Japan, India, Germany, Italy, Greece, Russia, Australia, Peru, Brazil, Ecuador, and the United States.
