St. Xavier College, the first and only Catholic College in Nepal is conducting the “8th Fr. E.L. Watrin Memorial Cultural Award” and Survaahini, A Musical Bliss. The college has annually been conducting such events as a Remembrance to Fr. E.L. Watrin who died of pancreas cancer. Father had contributed more than 5 decades of his life to the betterment of the college and our nation.
For his love and sacrifices towards our Nation, he was well appreciated with the annual Social Service Award by our prime minister (Sher Bahadur Deuba) in 2001 and the Nepal Veteran Athletic Association Award for his contribution to sports. He also had received the Suprabal Gorkha Dakshina Bahu (auspicious right hand of the Gorkha dynasty) from King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev in appreciation of the missioner’s many years of service in Nepal.
The event is being held on 23rd March 2022 at Watrin’s Hall, St. Xaviers College. The event is all about appreciating the pioneers of the Nepali music industries awarding them with cultural awards. The main motive of it is also to encourage the youth there towards classical music.
Likewise, this year the college is Honouring with the awards to “Sambhujeet Baskota”. Legendary music composer and singer of the Nepali Film Industry who has contributed his talents to Nepal by composing thousands of songs, may it be film numbers, Bhajans, or folks.
Along with the award ceremony, different musical performances are presented by the students and some of the well-recognized artists from Nepal and India as well.
