This year, 2018, marks the 25th anniversary of the legendary band –The Axe.

With an enchanting, unbending dedication to their art, and their endowing ability to empathize with millions, the legendary band “The Axe”  are an inspirational focal point in the Nepalese music industry. With Shiva Mukhiya on the vocals and bass, Surendra Shrestha on the drums and  Sajal Rajbhandari on the guitars (current lineup), the band has been serving Nepali music for more 25 long years.

Officially formed back in 1993 as a three man band, The Axe, as the founder members cite, was started without any serious far-reaching intent and commitment. They never thought their name would one day go down in history. Their very first album- Dhuwa was released the same year. Unfortunately, the album was not well received by the audiences. The change in trajectory of the band occurred in 1995 when they came up with their second album Farkera Herda, the same year when guitarist Sarad Shrestha joined the group and Ramesh Gyawali(one of the earlier member) left the band, featuring hit songs like chiya barima, pallo dadama, etc. Since then, they have been able to creating an everlasting impression on every person inclined to music  giving hits one after another. The band gained a new heights of popularity and social recognition. However, guitarist Sarad Shrestha, for some personal reasons, couldn’t continue with the band and left in 2006 AD. Aftetr 2006 many guitarist played from the band in a trial period. The band was in search of a good guitarist which finally came to an end with Sajal Rajbhandari joining the group back in 2011. Since then there has been no turning back.

Till date the Axe band have released seven albums, the recent one being Bhadaas which featured 10 songs with some patriotic, political frailty  and love relationship theme. Unfortunately, one of the songs from the album called Simana (a song on the issue of border encroachment) was banned by the Nepal Government. The Axe are currently working on their upcoming album which will most probably release  this year. So, get ready for some more awesome songs.

On this special occasion of Axe’s 25th anniversary, we would like to heartily congratulate the band . Their passion, dedication and contribution towards Nepali Music is truly inspiring. Its been a real pleasure and a big fortune to have born in this era of The Axe band.
